Information about the

Brand New SCB Nutcracker 2025

As you have probably heard, SCB is doing its own nutcracker this year and we could not be more excited to bring an all local production to Billings!  In the first week of classes, teachers will be asking students and parents if they are interested and able to be part of SCB's Nutcracker - either by rehearsing in class or rehearsing on Fridays or Saturdays.  Only younger students will audition, but we need a participation form from all dancers who would like to be in the show so that we can cast everyone and create a rehearsal schedule!

Please read all of the information below

Download the participation form here or pick it up at the front desk

This production is directed by Leigh Schanfein and Tiffany Wardell, with the help of many amazing SCB faculty!  If you have any questions that are not answered below, please reach out to Leigh & Tiffany at co.scbbillings @ gmail . com

When and where are the performances?

Tech Rehearsal:

Thursday, Dec 11, ~4:00 - 9:00 pm (youngest dancers leave earlier)

Performances:

Saturday, Dec 13 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm

and Sunday, Dec 14 at 2:00 pm

Tech and performances will be at Petro Theater on the MSUB campus.

There is also a mandatory full-cast rehearsal at the studio on the afternoon of December 6, ~11:30 - 4:00 pm.

Tickets are already will go on sale in November.

When will rehearsals be?

Almost all dances will be rehearsed during your dancer’s regular classes, just like for recital!  Some dances will be rehearsed Friday after school hours, or Saturdays.  We will know who rehearses when after the audition on Sept 20.

When larger scenes are coming together, dancers will need to be available on Saturdays in November to all be in the same place at the same time, so you’d need to plan to be present in general on Saturdays in November (excluding Nov 29).  There will be no rehearsals during MDAA, Oct 16 - 19.

Who can participate?

This production is open to all dancers who are interested, not just current SCB students.   Roles may be limited for students who are not enrolled in a class.

We hope all ballet students can participate.  We also hope some modern, tap, and hip hop students will participate!  Yes, you heard that right; our production will be mostly ballet with some fun additions.

Students in Movers classes and older are eligible (~ 5 years old and older).

*Please note that not all classes will participate but we plan to cast all interested dancers if they are available for designated rehearsal times.*

When are the auditions?

Dancers in Movers through Ballet 2 must attend the audition on Saturday, September 20, 9:00 - 10:00 am.

Dancers in Ballet levels 3 and up will not need to audition.  They will be cast via their classes.

On your participation form, we will ask about your availability re: rehearsing in class only, Friday afternoon availability, and Saturday availability, so we can cast your dancer appropriately.

All dancers who want to participate in the production must fill out a participation form and turn it into SCB no later than 9:00 am on September 20th.

See the front desk or download the participation form.

Is there a participation fee?

There will be a $15 participation fee.

No money will be collected at the audition.  Once dancers are cast in their roles, students will be charged the participation fee via JackRabbit.  There is no additional fee for costume rental, and ticket prices will be kept low, ~$20-25.

If you do not want to pay via JackRabbit, SCB accepts cash, credit cards, and checks made out to SCB.  Please note that changing through JackRabbit uses a credit card and there is a 3-5% processing fee added.

Any other helpful info?

If your dancer cannot participate, but you know they will have Nutcracker rehearsals in their class, you may be wondering if your dancer’s class experience be ruined.

It will not be ruined!  The plan is for choreography to only take a small portion of the class time and it will be fun for all to learn.

Of course, if the majority of a class cannot participate, then that class will not rehearse a dance, and the interested dancers from that class will be able to perform by rehearsing on Friday or Saturday instead.
