Class Styles

The School of Classical Ballet offers classes in a variety of dance genres, allowing dancers to pursue one primary dance style or to branch out and find diversity and range in their abilities.  With ballet as the foundation, dancers can go anywhere! Our current offerings include classes in Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Pre Ballet, and Creative Movement.

Mini Movers

The perfect class for our smallest movers; Mini Movers! This class is designed to be engaging and educational as the most basic elements of dance are taught. It's perfect for 2.5-3.5 year olds. Concepts of rhythm, space, body, energy, etc. are taught along with the timeless lessons of following directions. This is by far the cutest class at our recitals.

Movers

Movers classes, for 4-5 year olds, are based on creative movement and brain dance, using dance and music to develop creative and motor skills in our youngest students, and then developing into more genre-focused classes to introduce skills used in particular styles!

Combo

Combo is an age specific 45 min (Combo I 3/4) 60 min (Combo II 5/7) and 1.5 hr (Combo III 8/10) class. These classes will spend portions of the time working on a fantastic base and exposure to the basics of skills in Jazz and Tap, building on those elements and skills as the levels progress.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet provides an introduction to Ballet for young dancers ages 6 to 7. Classes are designed to teach the fundamental technical motor skills, musicality, motor coordination, and self-expression through the discipline of ballet.

Ballet

Daily classes combine the best elements of Cecchetti (Italian) and Vaganova (Russian) training styles to develop a student's artistry and technique.  Students are challenged to push themselves in every class through instruction that combines the tradition of ballet with contemporary training techniques that emphasize healthy dancing.  Classes are strictly graded to ensure the progress of each student.

Pointe

Ballet classes include pointe work for those students who have achieved technical and physical readiness as determined by the instructor.  Students taking pointe class must attend a minimum of two ballet technique classes per week.

Lyrical/Contemporary

An emphasis is placed on grace and fluidity, musicality and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement. Lyrical blends elements of ballet and jazz.

Modern

Limon, Graham, Horton, and Cunningham techniques are brought together to provide classes in contemporary movement.  Students are challenged to develop individualized expressiveness and a strong sense of movement along with technique.

Jazz

Jazz combines many styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance, to ballet. Rhythm, upon which all dance forms depend, is particularly integral to jazz dance. Jazz class includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. Using jazz, soul, R&B and pop music, jazz classes are a great way to release tension while attaining a body awareness that can be applied to everyday activities.

Tap

Tap dancing turns beats of the music into a fun way of feeling rhythm. Students learn tap terminology and to apply rhythm and timing to tap combinations. Tap dance develops a keen sense of rhythm as well as coordination.

Hip Hop

Provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. Consists of warm-ups and across - the- floor exercises as well as a variety of combinations and urban dance moves from R&B and House to Club and Pop. Our Hip Hop classes utilize clean upbeat music from various genres in addition to the latest Hip Hop hits. The resulting outcome is an energetic class that not only teaches you hip hop movements and technique but also instills rhythm and precision in your muscle memory.

Stretch & Strength

Classes are designed to develop strength in the hips, torso, and back through an intense anaerobic, no-impact workout based on Pilates.  Students will acquire strength in the 'core' muscles, which can provide a leaner, longer look, improved posture, reduced lower back pain, and improved sense of movement.  This class is designed for dancers and non-dancers alike, and anyone can benefit from Pilates-based training.

Adult Classes

We are thrilled to expand our classes for adults to better help you continue moving and learn new moves throughout your life! These classes all take place in the evenings so you can make it over to the studio after a day of work. Both men and women are encouraged to enjoy these dance styles!
